Bircher Muesli
An authentic Swiss breakfast of soaked oats, freshly grated apple, lemon juice, condensed milk and nuts.
Ingredients
- rolled oats30 g
- water90 ml
- apple1 pcs
- lemon juice30 ml
- sweetened condensed milk30 g
- walnuts30 g
Instructions
Pour water over the oats, stir, and cover the bowl. Leave in the refrigerator for 12 hours to let the oats soften.
Just before serving, wash the apple and grate it on a fine grater along with the peel; do not use the core or seeds.
Squeeze the lemon juice and immediately mix it with the grated apple so the flesh doesn't brown.
Add the soaked oats and condensed milk to the apple. Stir until you get a smooth, juicy mixture.
Finely chop the walnuts and gently fold them into the muesli.
Divide the Bircher muesli between two bowls and serve right away while the apple is fresh; the dish should be cold, with no cooking involved.
