Chana Chaat
A tangy Pakistani snack of tender chickpeas, potatoes, fresh vegetables and sweet-and-sour tamarind chutney.
Ingredients
- canned chickpeas, drained500 g
- potato300 g
- tomato200 g
- red onion100 g
- fresh cilantro20 g
- tamarind chutney60 ml
- lemon juice1 tbsp
- chaat masala2 tsp
- salt1 to taste
Instructions
Boil the potatoes until tender, cool, peel and cut into cubes about 1.5 cm.
Drain the chickpeas; if using canned, rinse under cold water and drain well.
Finely dice the tomatoes and red onion, and finely chop the fresh cilantro.
In a large bowl, combine the chickpeas, potatoes, tomatoes and red onion.
Add the tamarind chutney, lemon juice, chaat masala and salt; toss gently so as not to mash the potatoes.
Fold in the fresh cilantro, let the chana chaat sit for 10 minutes for the flavors to meld, and serve at room temperature or lightly chilled.
