Pyttipanna

A beloved Swedish dish of fried boiled potatoes, ham or sausage, and onions, traditionally served with a fried egg and pickled beetroot.

Ingredients

  • boiled potato700 g
  • ham or sausage300 g
  • onion1 pcs
  • butter40 g
  • salt1 to taste
  • ground black pepper1 to taste
  • egg4 pcs
  • pickled beet150 g
  • pickled cucumbers40 g

Instructions

Cut the boiled potatoes and ham (or sausage) into small, even cubes, about 1–1.5 cm.

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat, add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, 3–4 minutes.

Add the potatoes, spread them in an even layer, and fry, stirring occasionally, until golden and slightly crispy at the edges, 8–10 minutes.

Add the ham or sausage, season with salt and pepper to taste, stir, and heat through for another 3–5 minutes, until the meat develops a light crust.

In a separate pan, fry the eggs sunny-side up until the whites are set and the yolks remain soft and runny.

Serve the pyttipanna hot, topping each portion with a fried egg, slices of pickled beetroot, and pickled cucumbers.
