Rote Grutze

North German berry dessert served with vanilla sauce.

Ingredients

  • Mixed berries600 g
  • Sugar100 g
  • Cherry or berry juice300 ml
  • Starch2 tbsp
  • Vanilla sauce300 ml
  • Cream150 ml

Instructions

Warm berries with sugar and part of the juice.

Dissolve starch in cold juice.

Pour the starch mixture into the berries while stirring.

Cook for 1–2 minutes until thickened without breaking down all the berries.

Spoon into dishes and chill.

Serve with vanilla sauce or cream.
