German Frikadellen

Juicy flat patties made from a pork-and-beef mince, soaked bread, onion and mustard, fried to a golden crust.

Ingredients

  • pork and beef mince600 g
  • stale white roll1 pcs
  • milk100 ml
  • onion1 pcs
  • egg1 pcs
  • mustard1 tbsp
  • oil3 tbsp
  • salt1 to taste
  • black pepper1 to taste
  • pickled cucumbers40 g

Instructions

Cut a white bread roll into pieces, pour milk over it and leave for 10 minutes to soak.

Peel the onion, chop it finely and sauté lightly in 1 tbsp oil until translucent; let it cool.

Squeeze the soaked bread roll well and mix it with the mince, egg, mustard, cooled onion, salt and black pepper.

Knead the mixture by hand for 2–3 minutes until smooth. With damp hands, shape into 8 flat patties.

Heat the remaining oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties for 5–6 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.

Serve hot with pickled cucumbers; add bread or potato salad if desired.
