Shepherd's Pie
A British casserole with a meat stew topped with a layer of mashed potatoes.

Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, then drain.

Mash the potatoes with butter and milk until smooth, season with salt to taste.

Finely chop the onion and carrot, fry for 5 minutes in a large skillet.

Add the mince and cook until browned, breaking up any lumps with a spatula.

Add the tomato paste, stock and peas; simmer for 12–15 minutes until a thick sauce forms.

Transfer the meat filling to a baking dish, cover with the mashed potatoes and bake at 200 °C for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
