Rinse the pearl barley and if possible soak it for 2–4 hours.

Cover the grain with fresh water, add salt and cook for 40–45 minutes until tender.

Dice the onion.

Fry the onion in oil until golden brown.

Drain excess water from the porridge and add butter.
