Rinse the lentils thoroughly, finely chop the onion and carrot.

In a pot, sauté the onion and carrot in oil for 5 minutes.

Add the tomato paste, cumin, and paprika, and heat for 1 minute.

Add the lentils, pour in water or stock, and bring to a boil.

Cook for 20–25 minutes until the lentils are completely soft, then blend until smooth.

Season with salt, add lemon juice, and serve with mint or chilli flakes.
